Simple guidance for handling, displaying and caring for your Olives & Grace artwork.
FIRST STEPS
When your artwork arrives.
A little care from the moment your artwork arrives will help protect its surface, shape and finish.
UNPACK CAREFULLY
Open the packaging on a clean, dry surface and take care when removing protective materials around the artwork.
CLEAN, DRY HANDS
Always handle fine art paper with clean, dry hands. Where possible, hold prints by the edges and avoid touching the printed surface.
TAKE YOUR TIME
Large-format artwork is easier to handle with two people. Avoid forcing, folding or sharply bending the artwork during unpacking.
FINE ART PRINTS
If your print arrives rolled.
Larger fine art prints may be shipped rolled for protection during transit. A natural curve when first unpacked is normal.
REMOVE GENTLY
Carefully remove the print from its protective packaging without pulling, creasing or pressing into the paper.
ALLOW IT TO RELAX
Place the print face-up on a clean, dry and completely flat surface. Allow the paper to relax naturally before framing.
FLATTEN GENTLY
If needed, place clean, smooth and lightweight objects over the corners or edges. Protect the print with clean paper between the artwork and any object placed on top.
GIVE IT 24–48 HOURS
Larger prints may benefit from resting flat for 24–48 hours before framing. The natural curve should gradually reduce.
AVOID REVERSE ROLLING
Do not tightly roll the print in the opposite direction in an attempt to flatten it. This can crease or damage the paper and printed surface.
FINE ART PAPER
Caring for fine art prints.
Fine art paper should be treated as a delicate surface. Careful handling and appropriate framing provide the best long-term protection.
HANDLING
Hold prints by the edges whenever possible. Avoid fingerprints, oils, moisture and unnecessary contact with the printed surface.
FRAMING
We recommend framing fine art prints to protect them from handling, dust and environmental exposure. Archival-quality framing materials are preferred for long-term display.
CLEANING
Do not clean the paper itself with water, sprays or household cleaning products. If framed behind glazing, clean only the glazing according to the frame manufacturer's instructions.
CANVAS
Caring for canvas.
Canvas requires very little maintenance. Gentle, dry care is usually all that is needed.
DUSTING
Remove surface dust gently with a clean, dry and very soft cloth. Use minimal pressure and avoid rubbing the printed surface.
MOISTURE
Do not use water, cleaning sprays, solvents or household products on the canvas. Avoid displaying artwork in areas with persistent high humidity.
SURFACE
Avoid pressing against, scratching or placing objects directly against the canvas surface.
FLOATING FRAME
Framed canvas.
For framed canvas, gently dust the frame with a clean, dry, soft cloth. Avoid cleaning products that may affect the frame finish or transfer onto the artwork.
When moving the piece, hold it securely by the frame rather than pressing against the canvas surface.
Check hanging hardware periodically, particularly with larger pieces, to make sure the artwork remains securely installed.
LONGEVITY
A little care goes a long way.
Thoughtful placement and gentle handling help preserve your artwork for years to come.
PLACEMENT & ENVIRONMENT
Choose the right environment.
Where artwork is displayed can have as much impact on its longevity as how it is handled.
DIRECT SUNLIGHT
Avoid prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight. No printed artwork is completely immune to the effects of continuous UV exposure over time.
HUMIDITY
Avoid areas with persistent high humidity or condensation. Bathrooms and other moisture-heavy environments may not be suitable for unprotected fine art paper.
HEAT
Keep artwork away from strong direct heat sources such as radiators, fireplaces and heating vents.
TEMPERATURE
A stable indoor environment is preferable to frequent or extreme changes in temperature and humidity.
STORAGE
When your artwork isn't on display.
Store artwork in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight, moisture and extreme temperatures.
Fine art prints should be kept flat where practical, with clean protective paper or archival materials separating the printed surface from other objects.
Avoid folding prints or placing heavy, textured or sharp objects directly against them.
